The Bacon Hill Inn was built in 1862 by future State Senator
Alexander B. Baucus, a gentleman farmer as well as
statesman. Visitors today recognize the inn as largely
unchanged since that time. The trees are larger, and we
enjoy electricity, indoor plumbing and central air
conditioning, but the tranquil country setting and
comfortable private accommodations are much the same.
You are welcome to enjoy a full breakfast, or a lighter continental breakfast can be substituted. We use local, regional and organic food and products whenever possible and our menus vary depending on the season. Katie worked in kitchens in California before moving to NY and we are a supporter and member of Slow Food, Saratoga Chapter. The Inn has a baby fruit orchard, a summer garden, and we raise chickens for eggs. We source from our own gardens and chickens first and when that is not possible we try to stay as local as possible. Our local food providers include Battenkill Valley Dairy, Argyle Cheese Farmer, Meadowbrook Dairy, Pleasant Valley Farm, New Minglewood Farm, M&A Farm, Sheldon Farms, Sweet Spring Farm, Breese Hollow Farms, Good Fences Farm, Nine Miles East Farm, Saratoga Apple, Hand Melon Farm, Winney's Blueberry Farm and Denison Farm.
The inn is surrounded by hundreds of acres of farmland and
rolling fields. The hammocks and screened gazebo under the
century old maples are perfect spots for lazy afternoons. It
is only a ten minute drive from the inn to downtown Saratoga
Springs.
Innkeeper Katie Cartwright is a licensed massage therapist
and it is possible to schedule a massage at the inn as part
of your stay.
